What it is
Midweight denim covers the middle of the range, roughly 10 to 14 oz per square yard as a common guide. It is the weight most people associate with everyday jeans and jackets.
How it behaves
It holds its shape without feeling stiff, sews cleanly and suits most washes and finishes. It is a sensible default when the brief does not call for a specific weight.

About Midweight Denim
Midweight denim sits in the broad middle of the range, generally around 9 to 12 ounces per square yard. It is the most common weight for jeans because it balances comfort, durability and year round wear.
For private-label brands, it is the safest base for a core range, since it suits most fits, washes and customer expectations.

How it looks and feels
Midweight denim has a clear body without feeling heavy. It holds a shape, takes a wash well and softens comfortably over weeks of wear. It is available in rigid and stretch constructions, in many shades.
The weight range is wide, so two midweight fabrics can feel quite different. A 9 ounce cloth is easy and soft, while a 12 ounce cloth feels sturdier and closer to workwear.

Where it works and where it does not
Midweight works for jeans, jackets, skirts, dungarees and denim trousers across most seasons. It is rarely a wrong answer, which is also its limit: it will not give the distinctive character of a heavy or very light fabric.
If your range needs both a summer and a winter story, midweight can anchor the core while lighter and heavier cloths add variety.
