What it is
Stretch denim blends cotton with elastane, usually a low single-digit percentage. The elastane lets the fabric extend and return, which changes how a garment fits and feels.
How it behaves
It moves more easily than rigid denim and holds a closer fit. Recovery and long-term shape depend on the elastane content and the finish, so the target stretch should be stated in the brief.

About Stretch Denim
Stretch denim is cotton denim blended with a small amount of elastane, and sometimes polyester, so the fabric moves with the body and recovers afterwards. Most jeans sold today use some form of stretch.
For a private-label range it is the practical answer when customers expect comfort straight away, or when the cut is close to the body.

How it looks and feels
Stretch denim is softer and more flexible than rigid cloth. Light stretch gives a little ease, while higher stretch gives a legging-like feel. The twill face looks much like rigid denim, though fades are usually a little softer.
The trade-off is recovery. Fabric with too much elastane, or poor recovery, can bag out at the knees and seat after a day of wear. Fabric quality and stretch level matter more than the headline stretch figure.

Where it works and where it does not
Stretch works well for skinny, slim and women's styles, and for any garment sold on comfort. It is less convincing for heritage or workwear looks that depend on a stiff, characterful hand.
Stretch fabrics need careful pattern making and shrinkage control. Heat during finishing and care can affect elastane, so washing guidance should be clear on the label.

Questions buyers ask
How much elastane is usual?
Denim often carries a small share of elastane, with higher shares used for skinny and legging styles. The exact composition is confirmed at quotation.
Will stretch jeans lose shape?
Good recovery fabric holds shape well, but any elastane can relax over time. We suggest testing recovery on the paid sample.
Can stretch denim be used for jackets?
Yes, for fitted styles. Structured workwear jackets usually suit rigid denim better.
